2004 - August
We spent most of August in St. Augustine but finally managed to get away at the end. We headed for Jekyll Island on the Georgia coast. Jekyll Island Club - who owned the island from the 1860's until the 1970's - was the private winter resort of the very wealthy until WWII. It was then left unused until the state of Georgia bought the island in the 1970's. The old club grounds are now a museum and the 'culb house' is now a hotel. There are a number of other resorts on the island as well as a small number of private homes. Most of the island will be left in it's native state forever.
